Choosing a Hunting Gun

A hunting weapon is the foundation of all hunting experience; thus, some thinking should be done before purchasing a rifle or handgun you think is best for you. You should logically consider the many important aspects before deciding on which to buy.

The very first thing to do is to check into the laws in your region. For example, in Oregon, it is against the law to use a shotgun for anything other than hunting for birds. In this way, your choices can be narrowed down. If you plan to hunt for non-game animals like rabbits and squirrels, limit your option to rifles and handguns. The smallest caliber rifles like .22 and .223 are commonly used for small animals. However, if you’re preparing for a big game, there are several considerations like the weight of the rifle, stopping power, bullet weight, accuracy and range, brand, stock length, and scope or open sights.
